FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
About DuraLabel Supplies

1.   How do I determine the quantity of supplies I will need for my own individual labeling and sign-making applications and select the right supplies for the printer I have?

The purpose of a custom label printer is to give you the power to print virtually any needed label on demand. Where specific applications call for OSHA labeling, pipe marking or 5S labeling; DuraLabel Supplies offers kits specially packaged for those applications. DuraLabel representatives are also happy to help you find the appropriate type and quantity of supplies to meet your needs.

Supply quantities are unique to each situation and they will depend on your specific labeling needs. To help in your selection, here are a few tips. Let's say a supply is offered in 70' rolls. The number of prints you will be able to produce with this roll depends on the average length of prints used.

If you know the number of labels needed, as well as the average label size, the total number of feet required can be calculated very easily.

To illustrate this lets say you require one hundred 4"x 6" labels. Since two 4"x 6" labels can be printed per foot, the total length of label tape needs to be 50'. However, cutting roll size this close is never a good idea. It's best to have a little extra so there is sufficient labeling supply on-hand for testing, revisions, or typos.

For die-cut labels, the quantity of labels per roll is listed with sizes. For reference, keep in mind 4"x 6" die-cut labels generally have 200 labels per roll, while 2"x 2" die-cuts generally have 500 labels.

If you are not sure, feel free to contact one of our experienced representatives. They will be happy to assist you in ordering the right supply type and quantity to meet your needs.

2.   What is supply "longevity" and "durability?" How is this determined?

Most of our vinyl label supplies have an average outdoor life of five years. DuraLabel determines these figures by submitting supplies to extensive, in-house testing to assure quality and durability. Testing often includes exposures to chemicals, harsh temperatures, UV light, physical abuse and applications.

3.   Can I print logos and other graphics in addition to text?

Yes.

DuraLabel desktop printers are designed to function with Microsoft® Word® compatible programs. This gives you the power to format labels with your own designs and to your standards with graphics, text and custom layouts. Graphics (pictograms) are also easily included on labels and signs created with our Industrial Labeling Software (ILS). This exclusive software comes bundled with all DuraLabel desktop printers.

DuraLabel's handheld printers come with a pictogram library provided in the printer.

4.   What size labels do you carry?

Our label supply is available in various widths. Vinyl Supply can be as small as 1/2" in width and as large as 9" in width. Shrink tubes and wire wraps come in smaller sizes to fit a variety of wire and cable.

Supply width limitations depends on the printer being used.

5.   Will the text or graphics printed on the label rub off?

No. All DuraLabel printers use an industrial quality Thermal Printing Process (TTP). Once printed with a DuraLabel Printer, inks will not rub-off. TTP ink resists moisture, sunlight and many chemicals for the anticipated life of the supply. Specialty ribbons are also available to provide resistance to petroleum and other solvents.

6.  Can I make signs larger than four inches?

Yes. The DuraLabel 9000 prints on vinyl up to 9" wide.

For larger signs, the DuraLabel PRO, PRO 300, 7000 and 9000 printers can tile printings. Tiling is where supply is printed in strips and stacked to form a complete sign. These prints can be combined on a sign placard to create whatever size sign you need.

7.   Can I add barcodes?

Yes. Most DuraLabel printers can print bar codes.
